The holiday season is upon us!  Inevitably each year, we face the task of shopping for that person who already has everything.  What better way to give a gift and honor someone than with alternative giving.  Through alternative giving, you can let that special person know just how much you care by making a donation in their name to help Habitat!  Each donation helps us to continue building simple, decent, and affordable homes.  If you think alternative giving is a great option for you, follow the link below and click the blue ‘DONATE NOW’ button.  Be sure to put your loved one’s address in the description box and we’ll send them a card to notify them of your donation!

Here you will find project information and updates on the Cortland County Council of Churches build located at 198 Clinton Ave. Extension. The Cortland County Council of Churches is comprised of twenty churches, and these churches have agreed to take the next step in faith in working together to build a home.  The Council has been working on the fundraising portion by selling hot dogs outside of ValuHome during a six week fundraising campaign in addition to hosting a series of concerts in which talented musicians from the area donated their time to entertain for a good-will offering! The Rev. Vicki Johnson, Executive Director of the Cortland County Council of Churches, has noted that, “It takes all kinds of people to build a house, but together we do indeed build.”  If you ask, Vicki will tell the story of Bob the builder who can drive a nail in two swings of a hammer, while his counterpart Beth needs five minutes with the hammer to do the same job.  And yet they build together, side by side.  Johnson says,  “As we build this house together, we build bridges to one another.  As such, we are building a stronger community.”

Rev. Dr. Paul Pitkin, Rev. Vicki Johnson, Angela Loh, Andrea Rankin, Steve Farrell, and Shannon MacCarrick break ground at 198 Clinton Ave. Extension in Cortland!

The Cortland County Council of Churches has a fundraising goal of $95,000 and needs 5 things to make this sponsorship work: a Habitat partnering family in need of a home; teams of workers; donations of materials and skilled workmanship; donations of money; and opportunities for fundraising. Be on the lookout for information, as we’re going to be building on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. For more information about Faith Programs or to get involved, or if you would like for someone to come to your church to speak during the service, contact Rachel rachel@tchabitat.com, 607-898-4148
