Meet Our Newest Homebuyers!

Did you know this year we are celebrating our 30th birthday? We are marking the occasion by breaking ground on our first builds in the City of Ithaca. TCHFH is excited to work within the Ithaca community, and also to introduce two wonderful local families who will be partnering with TCHFH to construct and purchase the homes.

Soledad Exantus  is a single mom with two daughters. Her oldest is now a freshman at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, and her younger daughter is 14 years old and attends Ithaca High School. Soledad works two jobs: as a teacher’s assistant at Ithaca City School District and as a direct support professional at Franziska Racker Center. She has been working toward her dream of owning a home for years, having first applied to Habitat in 2013. Preferring to stay in the Ithaca City School District, Soledad was thrilled to hear that TCHFH would be building in the City of Ithaca for the first time. The family now lives in a one-bedroom basement apartment, where her younger daughter’s severe allergies are aggravated.  They cannot wait to partner with Habitat in building a healthy, affordable home where they will each have their own bedrooms!

The Maataoui family has been renting an apartment from Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services for the past 6 years.  Mohamed has been employed by the Ithaca City School District as a bus driver for 8 years, and he and his wife Rachida are extremely motivated to become homeowners. Mohamed completed his homebuyer education course and began a matched savings program to save money for closing costs before he even applied to Habitat. The couple, along with their two children, age 8 and 5, are grateful for the opportunity to work toward purchasing their very own home.
