Habitat Ground Breaking in Lansing

On February 12, a cold winter’s day, a lot of sturdy, dedicated people came out for our Ground Breaking event at 85 Sperry Lane, Lansing.  We have started a new home! – this time for the Gagnon family. Don is a single parent with three daughters, one of whom is severely disabled. TCHFH worked with an architect to ensure that our house plan is handicap adapted (and we will be using this plan as a standard for our future houses). For more details on the Ground Breaking, go to the Lansing Star (www.lansingstar.com) for their article on Friday, February 18th.

Interested in helping us build: sign up on our Volunteer page (or if you are interested in helping us with non-construction tasks – there is lots to do and we are a fun bunch to work with — really!).

Valentine’s Day

Habitat had a great Valentine’s Day after selling out almost all of its chocolates. Phew! A great big thank you to all who sold our chocolates AND to all who bought our chocolates. We love you all for such a sweet show of support.

Women Build is Back!

With Andi Baldwin as our new Women Build Program Coordinator, we had our first scheduled series of Women Build training classes – it was actually 4 sessions of the first training class. Eighty women signed up, and because of the extra sessions, all got real hands-on experience.

Stay tuned for the next ones – we are planning to hold a total of six classes this year with the next one will feature framing skills.  Classes are held at the Ithaca Lowe’s. Please email Andi at andrea.b@habitatnys.org if you wish to attend. You can still join us to learn and participate in the building of our next Habitat house.

October 2010

October 21 Update: WSKG’s fundraiser ended yesterday with a record $130,000 raised. We thank all of their supporters who donated to trigger the donations of committed services and materials to help build our next house in Lansing. AND thanks go to JB Smith Heating/AC; Finger Lakes Electric Supply Company; Paul Yaman Construction; Builder’s Best Do-it-Center; and Sunny Brook Builders; and to WSKG for partnering with us!

October 19 Update: WSKG has exceeded their $100,000 fundraising goal a day early so we will have the donated materials and services of Sunny Brook Builders, Paul Yaman Construction, Finger Lakes Electric Supply Company and Builder’s Best Do-it-Center to help us with our Lansing build. As a further fund raising incentive for WSKG, JB Smith Heating/AC has agreed to donate it’s services to help us with our Lansing home IF WSKG’s supporters donate an additional $20,000. We are all very excited by this possibility!

TCHFH is partnering with WSKG during their fundraiser (Oct. 14 to Oct. 20) to raise donations of materials and services for our next build – a home in Lansing for the Gagnon family. Sunny Brook Builders, Paul Yaman Construction, Finger Lakes Electric Supply Company and Builder’s Best Do-it-Center have committed to donating materials and services for our next build if WSKG is successful in its fundraiser.

Habitat is seeking more donations so that we can build the home for the Gagnon family. This home will be handicap accessible as one of the Gagnon daughters is handicapped. Our goal is to start construction as soon as late fall.

To donate, you may donate electronically through Network for Good – click that button on our home page or check our donate page for other ways to donate.
