Announcing our next new build!

Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins & Cortland Counties’ next project is at White Hawk Ecovillage located in the Town of Danby. We will be building a 1,100sqft 3 Bedroom, 1 bath home with our next homebuyer family! We anticipate starting construction in June 2022 and completing the build in about 12 months.

Volunteer Activities

We welcome volunteers of all abilities on our construction sites – no prior experience is required!  Our supervisors are poised and ready to teach and train and we want your volunteer experience to be as rewarding and productive for you as it is for us.  Construction tasks include foundation forming, framing, roofing, siding installation, insulation, hanging drywall, painting, installing trim, laying flooring, landscaping, and even installing the kitchen sink. Join us for a work day and experience first-hand how we put donations to work and how you can be a part of the affordable housing solution.

Site Safety and Clothing

Volunteers are required to wear closed toe boots or shoes, we recommend safety toe work boots. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty or damaged, we recommend long pants as they provide protection for your legs from splinters and scratches. Work can be indoors or outdoors so dress according to the weather and be prepared for both.

Volunteers will be required to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed by the site supervisor depending on the work activity. This will include safety glasses, hearing protection, work gloves and hard hats, which will be provided by TCHFH. If you have a pair of work gloves we suggest you bring them with you.

Food and Water

TCHFH will provide drinking water and some snacks; we recommend that volunteers pack a water bottle and a lunch as there are no options close to the site to grab lunch.

Site Location:

The build site is located at #30 White Hawk Lane, Danby, NY. The house is part of White Hawk Ecovillage, which is located approximately 6.5 miles from Ithaca NY on highway 96B South/Danby Road.  Volunteers should park in the community parking area and make the short walk to the build site.
