Volunteer Sign Up

We’d love to have you volunteer with us!

Stay up to date on all our activity! Subscribe to our email newsletter, follow us on Facebook or Instagram for all the latest volunteer announcements. We use the app Helper Helper for shift sign-up and volunteer hours tracking – scroll down to see our available shifts!

You’ll need to complete the volunteer profile and sign a liability waiver in order to sign up for your first shift. Please note that volunteers on our active construction sites must be at least 16 years of age.

If you have questions, please contact volunteer@tchabitat.com or call/text 607-844-3529.

1) We welcome volunteers of all skill levels, no experience necessary!
2) Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Layer appropriately for the weather and be prepared for either indoor or outdoor work.
3) Bring a water bottle (and pack a lunch if you plan to stay the whole day).
4) Use the app! All construction volunteers must register for shifts through the online sign-up system (Helper Helper) in order to complete a liability waiver, emergency contact information, etc. If you can no longer make it, please cancel your commitment in the app! This allows a volunteer from the waitlist to fill your spot. Need to cancel last minute, or running late? Refer to the app for the shift supervisor’s cell number to get them a message! Habitat’s office phone #/email are not necessarily monitored during the volunteer shift.

All volunteer opportunities are listed in Helper Helper and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are part of a group and you’d like to volunteer together, group members may sign up there for any available spots. Please note that each individual volunteer must create a profile, sign waiver etc.; group leaders may not reserve spots on behalf of group members. Please note that we are not able to accommodate large groups of volunteers on our construction sites at one time. It’s important that we are able to keep everyone meaningfully engaged, properly supervised, and safe! If you are looking for an opportunity for a larger group, we encourage you to contact the United Way of Tompkins County. Is your large group affiliated with Cornell or Ithaca College? Contact Cornell’s Einhorn Center for Community Engagement, or Ithaca College’s Center for Civic Engagement for help finding volunteer opportunities.
