Starting construction on Morris Avenue!

Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins & Cortland Counties’ next project is on Morris Avenue located in the City of Ithaca. We will be renovating a 2 Bedroom, 1 bath home with our next homebuyer family! Once complete, it will become a 3 Bedroom, 1 bath home. We started construction in June 2022 and hope to complete the build in about 12 months.

Volunteer Activities

We welcome volunteers of all abilities on our construction sites – no prior experience is required!  Our supervisors are poised and ready to teach and train and we want your volunteer experience to be as rewarding and productive for you as it is for us.  Construction tasks include framing, roofing, siding installation, insulation, hanging drywall, painting, installing trim, laying flooring, landscaping, and even installing the kitchen sink. Join us for a work day and experience first-hand how we put donations to work and how you can be a part of the affordable housing solution.

Site Safety and Clothing

Volunteers are required to wear closed toe boots or shoes, we recommend safety toe work boots. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty or damaged, we recommend long pants as they provide protection for your legs from splinters and scratches. Work can be indoors or outdoors so dress according to the weather and be prepared for both.

Volunteers will be required to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed by the site supervisor depending on the work activity. This will include safety glasses, hearing protection, work gloves and hard hats, which will be provided by TCHFH. If you have a pair of work gloves we suggest you bring them with you.

Food and Water

TCHFH will provide drinking water and some snacks; we recommend that volunteers pack a water bottle and a lunch.

Site Location:

The build site is located at 109 Morris Avenue Ithaca, NY. Volunteers are welcomed to park on the road next to the build site.
