Volunteer With Habitat

Volunteers are the foundation of our mission. There are many ways to impact our work, whether on the job site or off, no experience necessary. Find an opportunity that fits your interest.

New to Volunteering With Habitat?

No construction experience? No problem. Our construction staff will provide all the training, tools, and guidance you need to make a real difference and learn something new.

Construction & Home Building

Building a home from the ground up is powerful work. Our construction volunteers frame walls, install siding, paint interiors, landscape yards and much more. When you spend a day volunteering with us, you’ll work alongside future homeowners, fellow community members, and experienced crew leaders who guide you every step of the way.  All skill levels welcome.

Home Repair & Ramp Construction

Home repair volunteers complete accessibility modifications, minor repairs, and exterior improvements that help families stay in the homes they love. Projects often focus on building accessibility ramps, but also include porch repair, exterior painting and yard cleanup. Repair projects are worked into our construction schedule when time permits, from April to October.

Non-Construction Volunteer Opportunities

We need volunteers who can lend their skills in event coordination, office support, and community outreach. Help us plan fundraising events, keep our office running smoothly, or serve on advisory committees. These roles are often flexible, sometimes remote-friendly, and designed around your schedule and expertise.

Questions About Volunteering?

No construction experience required! We provide all of the training, tools, and supervision you need to contribute safely and effectively. Many of our volunteers had never picked up a power tool before their first shift and some of them are now regular crew members who can frame a wall or install drywall with confidence. If you can follow instructions and work as part of a team, you can build with us.

Sturdy closed-toe shoes are required for every build day. We also recommend long pants, and weather-appropriate layers you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a reusable water bottle and a lunch or snacks for the day. We provide all tools, hard hats, and safety equipment (but, you’re welcome to bring your own tools or tool belt, if you prefer!). Avoid loose jewelry, open-toed shoes, and clothing that could get caught in tools or equipment.

Most construction and home repair shifts run from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Non-construction volunteer roles (office support, event coordination, committee work) have more flexible scheduling and can often be done remotely or during weekday business hours. Contact us at volunteer@tchabitat.com or 607-844-3529 for more information about office volunteering.

Volunteers ages 16-18 are welcome on construction sites when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteers ages 14-16 can participate in tasks such as painting, site cleanup, and landscaping, when active construction is not taking place. Office and event volunteer roles may have different age requirements. Contact us directly if you’re organizing a youth group or school service project — we can explore options for age-appropriate volunteer experiences.

New volunteers start by creating a quick profile in Helper Helper, our volunteer management platform. Once you’ve done that, you can view our available volunteer opportunities and sign up for shifts. After you’ve signed up, you’ll receive an email confirmation and information on anything special you might need to know before you come to the site.

Let’s Build Together

Every home we build and every repair we complete starts with people like you choosing to show up. Whether you can give one volunteer shift or fifty, your contributions make a difference.
